Japan Airlines has launched a pilot project to use humanoid robots at Haneda Airport, starting in May. The robots, manufactured by Chinese company Unitree Robotics, will help transport luggage and cargo on the runway.
The experiment, which is expected to last until 2028, aims to ease a labor shortage in Japan, which is facing a surge in tourism and an aging population.
The robots can work for 2-3 hours without interruption and could be used to clean aircraft in the future.
However, critical tasks such as security will remain in the hands of humans. Authorities hope that the technology will reduce the physical workload for employees and increase efficiency at one of the world’s busiest airports./BuzPost/
